We know that ecosystems are dynamic systems, not static.
We know that many species of coral have survived warming and cooling episodes in the past millions of years.
This study indicates how corals adapt to changes in their environment over a relatively short period of time.
I wonder how many of the hard corals, soft corals and anemones are capable of these adaptations.
The optimist in me thinks that the reefs will survive in both structure and function. The players in this ecological game will just shift strategy. An amazing occurrence to observe.
