I'm in Canada and finding diff strains of pods is mission impossible :/

Do any of the USA dealers ship to Canada?

they can get stuff in, but you've gotta pick it up.
i'll be ordering s types and hopefully some different copepods.
you're right though. canada has nothing on the u.s. as far as this hobby goes.

lol, being in Vancouver kinda makes it hard to pick stuff up at canadacorals

I spoke to Algagen and they said they are working on getting a wholesaler here in Canada, so fingers crossed.
I also asked about s type rotifers which they carry as well and they said they would also recommend Apocyclops and Euterpina, 2 new products of theirs that wouldn't necessarily need live phyto to culture.

I'm not sure what the reasoning is by not allowing us to ship in live pods from the States, maybe the pods will escape and kill us all?

Hey there rsisvixen,

I am a biologist for Reed Mariculture. I just spoke with our customer service and they said that we can ship you any of our live feeds, as well as our other products, except Otohime and TDO. We currently sell to J&L Aquatics in BC and we just signed a new distributor, Reef Wholesale in Mississauga, ON. We have L-type and S-type rotifers, as well as Tigriopus californicus and Parvocalanus crassirostris copepods. I am currently working with Apocyclops panamensis, but it's in trial phase right now, so more testing is required before we can reliably ship this animal in high density. I am not trying to make a sale, I'm just giving you another option.

Was on the website but unsure if you shipped directly.
Are there still issues with the otohime feeds being restricted? I understand human food being put under scrutiny but fish food?

Yep, Otohime is fully restricted except with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. Somehow they got a pass. Apparently, the krill ingredient is an issue with the Canadian government, which is beyond me.

That is just weird. I can buy frozen krill by Hikari and thats imported.
Not to mention half the dried flakes and pellet foods on the shelves have krill as an ingredient-so why aren't they restricted?
I think they just played darts for a yes or no answer, and when they decided no they played darts with the ingredients-landed on krill and seemed a good reason to them so they went for it :/

I no longer order live products from the US because Canada Customs often doesn't put the package through until losses occur.
Next day shipping means nothing to the Canada Customs.
