9-16-08 - 5:30 PM - we have a spawn!

Renee walked in and caught them spawning...on the rock :(

Maybe next time? I'm curious to see how long this spawn lasts...

And now, only a handful of eggs remain. So it seems I have egg-eaters...grr.

Bummer. Mine ate a few batches then took a break and when they started again they no longer eat them. If that's any consolation.. Give it time I'm sure they will get there.

12-1-08

So I haven't given up on this pair. They are now more interested in a tile I've placed in their tank. Their RBTA split in two, and might go into 3, all in the last 48 hours. But the reason I'm posting is because I'm trying Joe Lichtenbert's trick. Starting today, they are being fed Fish King Fish Eggs. It looks like Masago, it probably IS Masago, but it's kept frozen and maybe it doesn't have as much additives or something.

At any rate, I'm going to try to feed them eggs once a day. Hopefully it will get them spawning regularly and also stop them from eating their spawns.

Will report on any changes / progress, if / when it happens!

12-6-08 - 4:45 PM - We have a spawn!

So I walk into the bedroom to feed the Black O's their daily feeding of eggs, and to my surprise I find a little nest of bright orange eggs laid on the tile! The big question - will they still be there in 24 hours?! We'll see.

The timing, well the timing is beyond "suspect"...I'm convinced the addition of the "Fish King" eggs helped spur this spawn.

Whoo hoo...I still have eggs, and they're definitely fertile! I wonder if maybe these fish will turn the corner and be good parents?! Looks like I might get to raise a batch of Black Ocellaris?!?!?!

12-13-08 - did we have a hatch? I don't know, but all the eggs are gone today. Seems a little bit too early, but then again, the numbers of eggs declined by like 5-10 per day, and yesterday there were only like 5 left. Oh well...next one maybe?

12-14-08 - took a break in my work this evening just to take some pictures of this pair...I don't think I ever really had before, other than a picture of the tank as a whole...

So no news in this case is just no news, not "bad", but certainly not "good". No spawns lately, not even an inkling in fact.

But I did try taking some pictures without the flash the other night..this is what it looks like in the morning when I turn my head towards Renee's side of the bed (she's always up and gone by then...so all I see is FISH!)

I think you need a bigger anemone for that tank, Matt! :D

Absolutely gorgeous!
