little shrimp running all over my larvae tank with just a few still in the planktonic stage. not sure how long it will take for the rest to settle or if they ever will, Some of them are still very small so maybe they need to grow up a little before they settle or maybe that are not very healthy and never will. I think I will wait and see what happens before I take the tank down for cleaning.

you will normally get some predation around moulting time when there shell is at its weakest.

You can mitigate it by providing plenty of hidey holes for the shrimp, I usually throw in a bunch of short PVC pipe pieces which seems to have reduced the predation for my shrimp.

they will be in a tank with live rock so there should be plenty of hiding places

Any more updates? I have some peps in my rbta farm and they are shedding eggs like crazy. So I have decided to set up their own larval tank and get going that way. A quick question that I think that you answered before but are you using a larval catcher or just catching them while they hatch? I am on the list for a larval catcher from chad vossen so hopefully I can get going soon and stop wasting all these larvae!

I just saw the post that said that you have a larval catcher..nevermind :P

yes I use a larvae catcher make with a pop bottle and PVC from the book Train Your Shrimp, works very well. I use a little LED reading like that you can get at any book store fore the light source

I will have to look into getting that book. My shrimp are breeding like crazy in my rose bubble tank.

Traps are really easy to build. Here's a discussion about them. http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=499&hilit=larval+trap

There is also the ones that user Chad Vossen is selling. A very good value, in my opinion. Please see: viewtopic.php?f=232&t=7104&p=73835#p73835

not sure what happened yesterday but I lost some of my young shrimp. The water was cloudy so I am assuming that I had a filter go bad. They are in a stand alone tank with a heater and sponge filter to I changed some of the water and now every thing seems to be alright. almost 4 weeks old now and seem to be growing well so maybe in another month or 2 they will start spawning. It will be nice to have completed my first challange.
