Once the pair start spawning, I can switch out the males, if that is what they are. If what I have are two females, then I need a bunch more males....:(

Good Luck Kathy! I also got my small mated pair from Inland Aquatics! I actually drove to their facility and they helped me pick out a pair! How's that for service? This is my first attempt at breeding, so I'm anxious to see what happens!

BTW, enjoyed looking at your site! Great looking clowns!

Amie I regularly get batches in the high thirties to saleable size. I have not had to artificially incubate thankfully but when I do your info will be much appreciated. The original pair started spawning in my reef which didn't have a chiller so the temp was always high. I started getting really large batches that hatched very small some hatching after the mass was spit so I started keeping the temp high. The numbers are always good.

To clarify the amount of food per feeding, I would say each fish will eat about 8-10 mysis(PE)per feeding before they let a piece hit the bottom.

Kathy do you have all three fish together. If so I would seperate the pair from inland or the two that are consistantly hanging closer to each other.
You might have better luck getting them to breed. Is your plan to switch the males after spawning to get the female to produce more eggs and breed with the new male?interesting

Steve my pairs usually spawn every month. About 7-10 days after the eggs are released usually forcefully on the 21st day. Had a clutch hatch the other day that I forcefully removed just by catching him in a net and if that doesn't work I grab him in my hand. This time he spit the eggs and spasmed or kind of went into shock and was permenantly bent at the back and breathing hard for three days. Now he is fine 6 days later. The female was bulging with eggs but not anymore. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Ooops, forgot to comment on this. I had this happen once - it scared me to death (probably didn't do much for the fish either). The only thing I could account it to was I think that I lifted him out of the water and put him back in face-down. So he got an air bubble in him. Does that make sense? I now am very careful not to lift him out of the water. But if I do, I will turn him around backwards before putting him back in the water.

I would suggest waiting until day 23. Day 21 is pretty early in my opinion. Do you see tails at that point? I know quite a few people that just wait until he spits them out, but I also know a handful that force the 'hatch' like you are doing.

Thanks for the compliment. Perhaps you saw some of my clowns at Inland, also. My pair of banggais are doing great from Inland. They ate right away, and seem quite taken with one another. They are always together.

Good information in this post about identifying male and female, also conditioning.
Some of this information needs to be cut and pasted into a "Banggai breeding for dummies" guide/sticky.

Hi there,
Thanks for the comments. Yes it would be a good idea, and perhaps something that is going to be done.
Keep your eyes peeled as we will make an announcement when it has happened.
Thanks
Steve
