The male is probably releasing the larvae on day 8, not eating them. I would suggest you capture the male on the night of day 7 and he will spit out the hatching larvae/ egg mass. I always place the egg mass in a home made tumbler and usually the eggs that are going to hatch will with in the next 24 hours. Howver, many larvae will be hatching at the time of capture.

Good Luck

They are tiny! Are you feeding them large rotifers?

PJ Cardinals require S strain rotifers for first feeding- or size sorted wild plankton... they can go onto L strain rotifers at about day 7-8 and then NH artemia around day 12

I still cannot understand why tiny fish wont eat the larvae of the larger rotifers but since I got the s strain rotifers, they really are smaller. I could not see my ywg strike at the large strain but I think I am seeing them strike the small strain.

Dan ( my hero from SeaHorse Source) told me there was a way we could make the large strain smaller by manipulating the temp, but I was ordering the small strain so I didn't ask him if the temp should be lower or higher. I wonder if you want to look into this?

higher temp equals marginally smaller rotifers... but it doesn't make an L strain rotifer (B.plicatilis) into an S strain rotifer (B.rotundiformis)

Shoot. I was hoping it was the other way around, so when I put the large rots into a warmer larva tank, the rots would get smaller....

Does it take long? Could the temp change work quickly?

Can you give us some details on when exactly he released the larvae? It's dark in your video. How long after lights out did he release them? How did you capture them?

Suzy- the temp change will make a difference to the next generation... so only takes about 13-14 hours to be visible in a thriving culture.
