From what I have read, the lionfish that have invaded Florida waters were from six fish that a hobbist had. When his house was flushed into the Atlantic during Hurricane Andrew, the fish were freed. The last report I read, and I don't recall where I read it, was that all the lionfish tested to date can be genetically traced back to the original ones released by the hurricane. Not sure how they have the ability to figure out the original fish's genetics, but I'm not in that field.

All appeals against the freshwater iridiovirus laws have been rejected they are now pushing through with the testing. Expect a major price hike in all livebearers, cichlids and labrynth species at this stage we will wait to see when they include other groups on this. An the big wait is to see if they will include any marine species on this even though they are ot affected by the iridiovirus just like cichlids have never been found to have it.
