Economics and Costs of production

Postby michaelv » Tue Feb 17, 2009 1:15 am

I am trying to locate some information on the economics side of land based aquaculture, specifically coral farming, as well as information on the costs of production. I did a search but I didn't find what I was looking for (could be its late and I didn't hit the right key words also). So with all that said has there been an attempt to actually work out what it costs to produce one frag or one fish?

Thank you

If you are hoping to make significant profit, I would suggest finding a buyer for the scale of production you are considering first, find out what they are buying and for how much, and work backwards to see what production costs could be allowed. Also, I would factor in a declining market due to increased availability and sellers market/economy...if they are buying at $1 today, it may be 80 cents in a year when you are ready to sell....finding the buyer may be the toughest part of the enterprise...doable but can be challenging.
