I'm not that familiar with US or SA laws but I have had friends bring fish back to the US from here. I understand that you will need to get some kind of a permit beforehand so you can declare the fish with it when you get back. I'm also quite sure you will have to name the species beforehand. Don't believe you need to be accurate with the numbers or species so long as they are less than stated
ie don't bring in unlisted species.
For CITES listed species, you will have to get an export permit. I think a CITES import permit is optional but for the US you should probably check it out beforehand - I got into a little tiff with someone on
RC who insisted it was not possible to import any CITES II species into the US unless it was captive bred
