Until we make it a a new forum,I will place here all technical photographic discussions that slip out of the topic where pics were posted, but are very valuable for us to improve our skills so we can learn and take better aquarium pics. 8)

Matt,these pics are awesome!
Could you give some photo technique description?.You use an external flash?.Mine was kinda rusty after many years out of use, sent it for repair.

Sure Luis. I'm using a Nikon Coolpix 8700. To take these pictures, I'm using the built in flash, and programatic (automatic) settings on the camera.

The biggest thing I've found to help the pictures turn out is to shoot from farther back. I.e. if the camera is only 6-12 inches away from the glass, I tend to get these fish looking washed out. If I stand 2-3 feet away from the tank, and zoom in to get the fish in frame, I get a more balance image. Overall though, I do capture MORE image (so the images are cropped more).

FWIW,

Don´t tell me you´re taking these pics with a point and shoot dig.cam.!
I still have to get in focus pics with my daughter´s Nikon D50 SLR
I always wonder how far you could go with a SLR camera,a real microscope, and a fish room with lots of big tanks! (plus time for caring of all that) 8)

But, did you arrest the AF feature?.And how you avoided flash reflections on the glass? :?

Technically Luis, you have the necessary access to MAKE the Photography forum if you really want to! Of course, I'm happy to do it if we're going forward with it :)

Do we need a BOD vote, or any vote, to set up a new forum? ;)

Matt

Technically I have the powers, but not the slightest idea on how to use them (or where they were)
Peter, yes Photo forums exist in all Aquarium Boards, and they are always very popular.Cause everybody owns a camera and loves to document and show what´s happening in their tanks!

So Luis, are we doing a Photo Forum then? Where should we group it, what should we call it, and what should the forum description be?

Congratulations, just did it for you Luis - http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=115

Moving this thread into there. MODERATORS, if you see Photography related threads in other forums, can you please move them and leave a "shadow topic" in the old forum?

Thanks!
