Have some oblique-lined dottyback larvae around 15 days old mixed in with some orchid dottyback larvae around 13 days old. I have started enriched Artemia and had added in a sponge filter about 2 days ago. Just today I added antibiotics, streptomycin sulphate at around 50 mg/gallon.

Minimal die-offs past few days. Estimated around 100+ survived the massive die-off period. Maybe the antibiotics helped this time? Not too sure.

Hi Luis,

I don't see much coloration except black pigmentation at the moment. Perhaps the only way to tell them apart is by size at the moment. They are still rather tiny, about 150% the size of newly hatched clownfish.

Down to about 10 larvae.

Suspected toxic tank syndrome so I shifted the survivors to a new round tub. They seem to be more active now.

It's amazing how long it's been since I have got this pair. I currently have a batch that should be just around 9-10 days old (maybe even longer I forgot when they hatched). Rearing them is just like orchid dottybacks. They seem to have some black pigmentation along the body length. I'm rather confident this time I should get at least 1.

Why not 1 thousand?
I imagine large dotties are easier than Pseudochromis? :?
Dotties show some juv mortality tracked down to nutrition issues.IME with Labracinus, too much bs seems to be the problem :?
Good luck with them!

They do seem to grow a little slower than orchids but I cannot be sure as I forgot to record the date they hatched. I just hope they will be peaceful during growout. If I can keep them in a tank with blue neon gobies that would be an ultra cool marketing photo.

Great news. I have meta. Should at least have 1. Larval duration is longer than orchid dottybacks, seem to take more than a month for meta to occur. Will show pics soon.

Dear Karen,

I took a few pictures but they are way too blury to be worthy to be posted. I will try again in a few days when the settled juveniles are more stable. I counted at least 2 fish. I wonder why but I cannot find information on other people who have raised them successfully. I only see reports that mentioned this species being raised successfully but the reports have never stated who has done Cyphos. :|

I have not heard of anyone raising C. purpurascens, Where did you see the reports?
One of the local wholesalers here wanted me to raise them and I could barely keep the pair living together. The male was so aggressive towards the female and I never had a spawn.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the photos when you post them.
Congrats again :D

Hi Karen,

This was the article.

http://www.forthefishes.org/uploads/Lis ... tivity.pdf

I was lucky to obtain a pair which was paired in a 5ft aquarium. They are now living in a tank less than 20 gallons, with a pair of percula clownfish. This pair has got to be very docile as far as oblique line dottybacks go and they leave the percula clowns alone. Amazingly, the female (which is supposed to be the dominant fish), is smaller than the male and hides from the male most of the time. The male spends most of his time in his pvc shelter.
