There are some people that can tell. But it is hard for me. Some of the fish are so thin and young when they are at the stores. I had blue spots spawn for me. I got a group of four.I ended up with three males and one female though. And boy I knew first day who was what. The males all turned black and white......no kidding. They were all trying to impress the female. So I say get a small group to be sure you get a pair. But maybe someone else on here may have some pics. The males usually have larger heads but again I've had a hard time telling some apart when they are young.

Well I have two and I know the males are more colorful than female so when I pick that what I did I got a bright one and one not so bright how many can you keep together or how many would you try to keep together

Which type of Jawfish do you have? The pearly are pretty sweet and don't fight much but the blue spots can be mean ( males fighting). But again it is always easier to make sure you have a pair if you get a group. Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry I must have missed the fact that you had blue spots. How long have you had them ? And are they getting along ok ? You will know if you have a pair because the males do change color. But if you have a good sized tank and the money for more go for it. :D

My fish spawned in a 46 gallon tank. They were the only fish in the tank. And there was a thick layer of substrate. Make sure the tank is covered. These guys like to jump.

You give me hope, Amy! I introduced a small bluespot to a tank with an established single recently. The bigger one immediately started with the black and white and darting up into the water column. Hopefully now I just need to fatten up the new one. Thanks!

Andy,
Just give them time. Mine changed color on the first day . But it was months before the first spawn. Good luck .I have four more in a 30 now. The 46 now has raccoon butterflies fwiw. After one of my blue spots was stung to death by an aiptasia     I had to get a clean up crew (raccoons) for those things. And Andy it looks like we have the same taste in fish. haha

***Absolutely off-topic rant*** Grr. The website is now logging me out between the time I open a thread to view and when I get around to making a post. It then asks me to login, but doesn't make the post. I've lost several posts over the last few days through this. Grr.

Amy: What's not to love about bluespots (except the price)? A fish that's gorgeous and just begging to be captive-bred. Do you know if anyone's raised any yet?

I love this fish and would like to try at breeding them. Can anyone point me in the right direction in getting a pair of tank raised ones?
Thank you

Michael, I think if you want a pair of tank-raised ones at this point that you have to raise them yourself. :) Good luck!

I have really been wanting to give breeding these guys a shot. The only thing keeping me from trying is the price. Up here they are about $90-100 each. My wife is starting to catch onto the everything I buy costs $10 line. Not to mention the I won it in a raffle line.

Also, all those interested in breeding at this point should be starting with WC Brood stock so that we can trade offspring. Trading the same brood stock from one breeder will lead to genetic drift within a few Gen's.

:) Great photo! The bluespot in the video above is named Oscar. He actually got trapped under a rock at the LFS and now has a slightly twisted upper jaw. But he healed fine and it doesn't seem to slow him down much. No problem moving rocks 17 times the size of his head.... :)

Nice to see you are a sweetie too Andy  My favorite blue spot male is named Ziggy Stardust. I won't bother saying all the others. I think names show concern and compassion by the hobbiest. Just my 2 cents. :| And these guys have so much personality names just fit. And Andy my males will take on yours any time when it comes to rock moving.....just kidding. I'll stop I'm getting silly now.
