RBTA Ideal Flow conditions

RBTA Ideal Flow conditions

Postby roshi719 » Mon Nov 30, 2009 2:19 am

I am in the process of begining an anemone farm and I am just checking out how much flow I should have for RBTA's. The system consists of 3 40 breeder tanks overflowing one into the next with a 40 breeder sump. I have two air lift tubes in each tank with the anemones for flow as well as the return which is bout 500 GPH. Do you guys think this is enough flow or should I do some sort of a surge instead?

I, and some others, feel surge flow is best for most anemones.

How about a squid to simulate a surge? One end on each side of the tank so the direction of the flow changes, similar to waves and currents.

A surge it is then. Would you think 5 gallons would be right for a surge in a 40 breeder? or would that be too much?

Should be good...if you don't feel it is enough, you could put two....then sometimes both will fire, or one then the other...should break up the flow nicely. ;) Rod is the surge man. :D Where in Illinois are you?
