Advice on Raising Lemon/Yellow Chromis?

Advice on Raising Lemon/Yellow Chromis?

Postby DaveS » Thu Dec 19, 2013 3:28 am

Hi all. I've been a lurker on the board for a while thinking about raising some of the fry from my tank. I was originally going to start with some Ocellaris fry but I have a harem of Lemon Chromis that are constantly laying eggs. They are the same as these:

I'm now thinking about starting off with them but have no idea what to do. Anyone have advice on how to go about raising them? Are they similar to Ocellaris or are they horribly more difficult? I'm not sure I want to start my first attempt at raising any fry with something too difficult. I've read the Wilkerson book on clowns so I have a decent idea (but no experience) on what is needed to raise them. If someone could provide some pointers on how to handle the Lemon Chromis, I'd appreciate it.

I'm know photos are always good so here are a few to give everyone an idea of what I have going on.

Lots of eggs!

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Welcome to MOFIB,Dave! :D
If you were asking about raising larvae of any damsel and particularly (real) Chromis;my advise would have been against. They are very difficult.
But you are lucky, you are breeding one of the very few easy damsels, those of the genus Amblyglyphidodon.
You should treat them like clowns for all practical purposes.
You can google them, but I am not aware of any previous report on breeding this species. So your experience could well be a "first time".
By all means, give them a try.And keep us posted.
Good luck! 8)

Thanks Luis. I'll try rearing the larvae like clowns and see how that goes.
