Black Axil Chromis laying eggs

Black Axil Chromis laying eggs

Postby jmowbray » Mon Aug 24, 2015 7:37 am

This is my first time I have had any SW fish lay and have a mate to fertilize. Is this common with black axils? I see post on greens and golds but not this particular species. I'm sure they will get ate or may not even hatch but I'm happy to see I have a pair. There are maybe 100+ eggs layed on the glass right now and they are both protecting them. Is there a common hatching time between each species? Looking for any information. I know hey will be hard to raise but I have over 7 years experience breeding FW angles.

Welcome to MOFIB-Marine Breeders! :D
Congrats on your Chromis spawning!
C.atripectoralis are almost identical to C.viridis and most people confuse both spp.
Chromis and Dascyllus spawn very small eggs and larvae hatch early in about 3 days, very small and undeveloped. What makes them very hard to raise. :(
