Occelaris x Picasso

Occelaris x Picasso

Postby JulioC » Wed Mar 04, 2015 3:20 pm

Does anyone has a picture of Ocellarix X Picasso babies?

I had these two fish waiting for mates and since I was short of space I put them together. The good or bad thing is that they started laying eggs in abaut one month and I´m not sure abaut raising them. I can split them and make one occellaris pair and one picasso pair or I can try them together.

What do you think?

I´d be against it.percula x ocellaris is often given as an example of a bad hybridization choice,as nothing is gained and the genetic background of such fish in further captive generations becomes uncertain. That said,we still see many of such hybrids, called "percularis"in the trade.i,e. "black photons" in USA and others recently being produced in Bali.

Ok, thanks Luis.

I´ll split them. I just need a large Picasso and a medium ocellaris to try them to keep spawning.

And even if you find a normal (orange)percula to mate with your Picasso, you will be losing,"diluting" the Picasso genes.By all means, mate Picasso with Picasso, unless you have some special breeding project in mind...
