Darwin's wont spawn

Darwin's wont spawn

Postby Duke1215 » Sat Jan 18, 2014 7:28 pm

I've had a pair of Darwin's for about 4 years. I have put a pot in the tank, the temp has been at 80℉ for over a year, and feed them very well. The pair of pj cardinals spawn almost every 2 weeks but the clowns won't. The tank is a 55 with a blue hoppo, pair of clowns, an angel, a damsel, pair of pj's and a circus goby. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can do? I've considered lowering the temp for a few weeks then bringing it back up, but I am planing or keeping a batch of pjs soon and don't want to risk messing up their cycle.

Clowns might take a long time to start spawning or even never doing it.Darwins are said to be worse in that respect.
You could try the foster nest trick

To get my Darwins to spawn l raised the temp over the course of about a week or so up to 84 degrees and increased the light period to 16 hours - they started spawning within about a month and continued every 6-7 weeks after that for about a year until l sold the pair :) Hopefully that helps you too
