crossing questions ....

Postby Derwins » Fri May 24, 2013 11:32 am

Boujour,
I allready have a pair of amphiprion ocellaris, composed of a male classic and a darwin female
me am soon going to have the inverted couple: male Darwin and a classic female.
did I have to leave them as that , either force things by changing the couples, as a pair of ocellaris , and a "darwin" pair ?

Have you images of crossings babys and adults from classic and black Darwin crosses please ..?

While Darwins are officially considered A.ocellaris, there are reasons to believe that they will be given a full specific status in the future. Therefore crossing Darwins with other ocellaris is not advisable, unless you purposely want to produce what might later turn to be hybrids. And they are brown fish, lacking the beauty of both parents. :?

Mais ton anglais c´est super,mon ami! :D
Crossing Darwin x ocellaris is neither right nor wrong,it is your decission.
Usually you can put both fish together, providing some refuge, but if aggression is bad,you can separate them with an acrylic partition for a week and remove it later under close supervision.

The black and white pair of ocellaris looks very different in aquarium.

when pairing clownfish, sometimes you know immediately if they are NOT going to pair well together because the female is too agressive towards the male and could kill him. I have one female that has killed several small potential mates in a matter of minutes, before I could get the poor thing out of the tank. She is destined to be alone.
