My Antennarius sp. spawned!

My Antennarius sp. spawned!

Postby petromir » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:05 am

Hello,

my name is Markus and this is my first post here. My pair of Antennarius sp. spawned and I`wondering if anybody here can give me some advice to breed little frogfish... Attached are 4 images. What can I do with the egg clutch? Once the larvae hatched what should I do? Food? Sorry, for so many questions but I'm not a experienced breeder. Frogfish are just my favourite and I would be excited to raise a few of them. Thank you!

Kind regards

Markus

How can I post images directly?

Welcome, Markus! And congratulations on the spawning event!

To post images directly, click on "Upload Attachment" in the area below the "Save" "Preview" "Submit" buttons while you are making the post. Once you have uploaded the attachment, then you will have the option to "Place inline" the image you have uploaded. It's good to use the "Preview" button when doing so, to make sure it turns out the way you want it to before posting.

I'll let somebody more knowledgeable about frogfish respond to your breeding questions.

Hi,

My tank has 160 liters, I added abot 12 kg of live rock and algae...that`s it. Skimmer, little current and a UV sterilisier. Nothing special. Only inhabitants are the 2 anglers, a few hermit crabs and a dolabella. The white glumb smimming on the surface are the eggs.

How long are your lights on and has your tempature increased or decreased? Also what what sizes were your frogfish when you got them?

Thanks

Congratulations! I am afraid I am absolutely no expert on this, either, but I have compiled some information in this species' Breeding Overview: viewtopic.php?f=155&t=979

Hopefully that can be of some help.

I did nothing with the eggs. Just left them in the aquarium. I don`t know if any hatched, if yes, I`m prettty sure they are in the skimmer now :-(. However the female layed eggs again yesterday. So far I got no info what to do with the eggs and I`m not an experienced breeder so i just don`t know. Do I have to put the eggs into a kreisel system? What food for the first days until the can take birne shrimps? Thanks again for any info.

Hi,

the larvae are there, see images! I will leave them in the tank in the hope that maybe one or two will survive on their own.

That's awesome!
I watched my late Sargassum Angler "spin" an egg mass once. I thought it was convulsing / dieing, as it was violently spinning / thrashing to get that large mass out.

Good luck!

Congrats Markus !
Given their size, they may need rotifers or something smaller to eat. They may not make it on their own but I hope I am wrong.

As for how to attach pictures to the thread, here is an explanation viewtopic.php?f=263&t=8065&p=76517#p76517
I hope to here more from your fishes.
Good uck !
