Welcome to the Larval Culture Forum. This will be a place where we can discuss and share experiences about egg/larvae collecting and rearing.
This Forum will be very exciting and rewarding.Very little is known about ornamental marine fish larvae raising. Most is for us to find out and work out successful protocols.
Larval rearing is the bottleneck of all marine species breeding efforts,no matter how successful we are in keeping our fish in good shape and having them spawn for us,the end result is nothing if we can not rear the larvae until they settle down as tiny juveniles.
It is my idea that culture of larvae of different species will all be undertaken using the same or similar protocols, which will be a substantial bonus,to find a sound technique for one species and then be able to raise many others.
But be aware that we will be sailing unknown waters.Very few species were ever raised and very few breeders can routinely raise any species. Methods for us to succeed with any species we spawn, lay out there waiting to be discovered.
So the focus of this Forum is everything related to the rearing of marine ornamental fish larvae.Where to keep them, what environmental conditions and feeding, etc.
Invertebrate larvae require very different conditions and their raising should be posted in their corresponding Forum.
The few marine ornamentals that don´t go through a larval phase, like seahorse, banggaii, and others, don´t belong here,as they pose different rearing problems.
Clownfish, while technically hatched as larvae, should have their rearing aspects treated in their own Forum. They hatch so large, and their larval phase is so short that raising them is straightforward and wouldn´t benefit of the more complex techniques treated here.

Let me take that back  Crustaceans as a group pose special rearing needs that would be shared by all forums dealing with decapods here.
So there is no other place than this one to discuss general aspects of culture of decapod larvae.
Therefore,we´ll have a "crustacean larviculture"thread here, where we can discuss the special aspects of rearing the larvae of shrimps, crabs and lobsters.
