Need some help (cooling)

Postby Jjay88 » Fri Aug 08, 2014 10:44 am

I have a 140 gallon broodstock system currently setup in my house, and I'm lookin to move it to the garage. My main concern is the heat (I live in FL), temps reach around 120 (in the garage). Do you guys think fans would work for cooling? I'd like to avoid buying another AC unit if possible.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

What kind of fans? Would they be a part of the tank, blowing on the water? Or just in the room, moving the hot air around?

I have a couple of ideas.

If you are moving the tank into the garage, do you care if you can see into the tank from the sides? I insulated all of my breeding tanks, and it has made a big difference in my electric bill. I would think it would help keep the heat out, as well as the cold. I used TekFoil.

It would probably help to insulate your garage so it doesn't get as hot.

You can purchase a cooler for the tank, but those are very expensive. Another option is to purchase a small cheap refrigerator. Then pump water through tubing that runs through the side of the refrigerator, through a large coil of tubing inside the refrigerator, and back into the tank.
