How to treat Campylobacter outbreak in Clownfish tanks

Postby mztexas » Tue Apr 08, 2014 3:18 pm

Hello,

I had a large die-off of clownfish in my grow out tank over the past 10 days. I have a set of DNA tests done to determine the cause of death. The results came back positive with a extremely high count of Campylobacter in the water. Does anyone know what antibiotic will treat the remaining survivors and if I can rid the tank of the bacteria or if I need to bleach the entire system. Any insight would be appreciated!

If this was not a lab error, you face an unusual and hard to treat germ, seldom found in aquatic environments, except for waste water or ponds contaminated with poultry manure.
They soon become resistant to fluoroquinolone and the other few antibiotics used against them.Azytromycin should be your choice.
Try a strict hygiene in the future, along with the use of UV.

Thanks. I decided to bleach the entire system and start fresh. Lost about 400 clowns. Doubt it was a lab error. Thanks for the info.
